Greek style tomato patties : tomatokeftedes

Have you ever heard of these Greek style tomato patties : tomatokeftedes ? These tomato patties originate from Greek cuisine. More specifically, from the island of Santorini.
Tomatokeftedes are usually served as a mezze.

They’re dishes served in small portions. You can find patties, creams, salads and all kinds of preparations. And everyone around the table shares the mezze and picks at it left and right.
Just talking about all this makes me nostalgic for my summers in Greece. I loved the long evenings in the tavernas with my parents and family. We’d pick at every dish. So many good things! Of course, feta cheese, olives, eggplant caviar, the famous Greek salad, etc. etc.
But anyway, let’s get back to these Greek style tomato patties : tomatokeftedes.

I’ve slightly modified the recipe.
Let me explain how.
Normally, tomatokeftedes are prepared with basil. Here, I wanted to replace it with dill and parsley. These are two herbs that are very typical of Greek dishes for me. And when I’m feeling nostalgic, I usually combine these two herbs. Sometimes I’ll add a little mint. And poof! I’m transported to Greece. It’s magical!

Greek style tomato patties : Tomatokeftedes

Ingredients
  

Patties

  • 400 g tomatoes approx 2-3
  • 100 g red onion 1
  • 1 small chili pepper optional
  • 10 sprigs dill
  • 10 sprigs flat-leaf parsley
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 5 tablespoons flour to taste
  • 1 tsp salt

Sauce

  • 160 g Greek yogurt
  • 100 g feta cheese
  • 5 sprigs dill
  • 1 clove garlic
  • salt

Instructions
 

  • Finely dice the tomatoes, onion and chili pepper. Finely chop the herbs.
  • Mix all the ingredients for the patties in a bowl. Adjust the amount of flour according to the consistency of your mixture. It should be sticky enough not to fall apart when you take a large tablespoonful.
  • Prepare the sauce: mix the yoghurt, crumbled feta, pressed garlic and chopped dill.
  • Heat ½ cm of oil in a frying pan. Drop in a large tablespoon of the mixture and flatten with the back of a spoon. Repeat the operation, depending on the size of your frying pan. Turn the patties over when golden-brown (approx. 5-6min).
  • Serve immediately with the sauce.
